Wombat Fact
The Wombat House is named for the Hairy-Nosed Wombat, the largest and most secretive of the wombat species. On the brink of extinction in the 80s with a population down to 35, dedicated efforts to predator fencing and habitat management program has increased the population to 300. The population is still vulnerable to disease or natural disaster, with efforts underway to establish more colonies in other parts of Queensland.
